Dear JW Eater Families,
It is with great sadness that I inform you that one of our Eater teachers, Mr. Robert Dover, passed away unexpectedly at home. Mr. Dover has been a part of the Rantoul City Schools family for many years; this year teaching eighth grade social studies at Eater.
As a school, we learned of Mr. Dover’s death this afternoon, and we, the adults, are affected in many ways by the passing of our friend and colleague. The staff met after school today, and we plan on sharing about Mr. Dover with our eighth grade students during Eater 101 on Tuesday. Additionally, school district social workers and counselors will be available to students as needed.
There will be a permanent substitute in place for the remainder of the year, and Mr. Dover’s fellow social studies teachers will be assisting with planning and grading.
We are here to support your student, and I have included a link here that has suggestions on how to talk about death with a child. Please keep Mr. Dover, his family, our staff, and our students in your thoughts as we grieve this tragic loss.
